Moves The weight you carry home

The weight you carry home

Share

A full bag of shopping is real weight. Heavier by the time you reach your door.

Some people find the walk home leaves them as worked as a short session would. Carrying a load is a recognised strength movement, and some research suggests it works the core and grip more than holding still does.

Where do you feel it by the time you're home?

What you'll need

  • Your shopping, in a bag or two
  • The walk home on foot

Method

Split the shopping so each hand carries a similar weight.

Stand tall, shoulders relaxed, and walk at a steady pace. Let your grip and middle hold the load rather than rushing to put it down.

Give it a couple of weeks of shopping trips, and notice where your body feels worked by the time you're home, and whether that shifts as the weeks go on.
