Moves More than water

More than water

Sweat looks like water. It mostly is.

But it carries salts too, mostly sodium, with smaller traces of potassium and magnesium. How much you lose can vary a lot from one person to the next. Some people find plain water doesn't quite settle them after a heavy sweat.

What does a good sweat take out of you?

What you'll need

  • A session or a day that gets you sweating
  • Water within reach

Method

After you've sweated, a workout or a hot afternoon, pause before you reach for a drink.

Check in with the whole body, not just the thirst. Heavy legs, a dull head, a pull toward something salty, or nothing much. Then drink your water.

Give it a couple of weeks of sweaty days, and notice whether plain water settles you each time, or whether some days the body seems to want more.
